Dundgobi province was founded in 1941 with the name of Sharangad in Embuu Dersene – Us of present Ulziit soum. In 1942, the province was renamed as Dundgobi and settled in its current location known as Zoogiin Har Us. Territory of Dundgobi province covers 74,7 thousand square kilometers and Mandalgobi city is center of the province which is 280 km away from capital Ulaanbaatar. Administratively province is divided into 15 soums, which consist of 67 bags. Soums are divided into 3 zones based on regional development concept of Mongolia.
